Essex county cricket 2017 thread

2017 season just under way with a drawn match against Lancashire. Best we can hope for this year? Stay in division one and a decent cup run in one of the competitions?

I love ESSEX CCC but I'm very disappointed they've employed that cheat Mohammed AMIR for part of the season.

Got plenty of batting but a bit over reliant on Porter to get wickets. Amir and Wagner should get a few between them so I think we'll stay up.

Westley and Lawrence are the GREAT HOPES aren't they? I see James Foster got dumped for the first match.

They are both terrific batsmen. LAWRENCE was a revelation for Wannaroo when he went overseas.

It's Wanneroo
Damien Martyn and Mike Hussey both played for them I think

Not sure you can Westley a hope, as I'm pretty sure he's no spring chicken and is about 28 now.
Excellent batsman though.
With usual progression, Lawrence has a great chance of an England career ahead of him.

I have no issues with Amir steaming in for the EAGLES later on this summer.
Could certainly be the difference between staying up and relegation.
Would love a day out at Lords or Edgbaston for a final and with such a mighty batting line up we have every chance.
Love a bit of ZAIDI when he is in the mood in the white ball games.
Pity the CHEF didn't fully quit England to concentrate on prolonging his club career.

What's up with RAVINDER?
Appears to fancy himself as a mid order TAVARÉ at the moment.

Wagner has bowled well in his second spell, the spinners taking advantage of a pitch that is taking plenty of turn. Anything over 250 will be a decent total on this track.

Don't let that tail waggle.
We have a shocking habit of letting teams do it to us when we've done the hard work.
Great to see BOOM BOOM tearing it up in Cydrabad.

We do have a very decent tail, though batting is quite tricky out there today. Trego has been his usual brilliant self, he should have been an England regular for the last decade. Fair play to Essex, they've bowled well, really good discipline.
